Ty Newydd
Project Information
The winning competition entry for a new writer’s shed in the grounds of the National Writer’s Centre in North Wales. Built from Welsh larch and elevated on a brick plinth, the shed follows a simple geometric grid, which uses the diagonal to create openings, focus or structure. Akin to a standard box with appendices to cater for the writers who may use it, it contains a small bed or sofa, a stove for warmth, a table and a window seat. An idiosyncratic building, a folly in the landscape, this contemporary structure provides familiar reference to the Arts and Crafts movement.
